Wellington, FL – January 24, 2020 – Week 8 of the 2020 Winter Equestrian Festival will now include a $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby on Friday, February 28, at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. This class will be held in addition to the USHJA International Hunter Derbies held during Week 4 (January 29 – February 2), Week 9 (March 4-8) and Week 12 (March 25 -29) of the Winter Equestrian Festival.
In an effort to feature the hunter discipline in new and innovative ways, the Week 8 $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby will span both rings of Pony Island (Rings 11 and 12) to create a traditional derby field environment.

The event will be held over two rounds, both on Friday, February 28, beginning with a classic hunter round. The top 12 scores from the first round will then return to decide the overall winner in a handy round format. Awards will be presented after the first rounds and again for overall placings after the handy round.

The $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby joins an exciting lineup of derby competition at WEF, which includes the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby Hunt & Go, presented by CCTV Agent, on Friday, January 31, in the International Arena during Week 4. In addition, a $10,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby will take place on Saturday, March 7, on the Derby Field at Equestrian Village during Week 9.

Hunter action culminates with the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby Hunt & Go and $10,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby on Friday, March 27, before a $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby caps the season on Saturday, March 28, on the Derby Field at Equestrian Village during Week 12.
